Angel Reese was feeling it amid the Atlanta Dream’s 77-72 win over the Dallas Wings on Tuesday, which gave her the first 2-0 start of her WNBA career. Reese was a key contributor in the victory, tallying 12 points and 16 rebounds on 50.0% shooting. Her size advantage in the post helped the Dream win second-chance opportunities as she had eight offensive boards, more than the Wings had collectively.
One of her highlight plays under the rim came against 5-foot-8 guard Oydssey Sims after Reese grabbed one of her eight offensive rebounds off an Alisha Gray missed 3-pointer. Reese got the shot to fall and hit three back-to-back celebrations. She first hit the flex celebration, then a too-small gesture and then asked the crowd to get involved.
While Reese came out on top on that play and had a memorable outing, this incident also led to heavy trolling from many WNBA fans.
One fan compared her to streamer Flight, who is very expressive on camera, saying:
“All them goddamn emotes she just like flight”
“Outrebounded a 5ft 1 woman that didn’t even get off the ground and celebrated like she had just outrebounded Dennis Rodman,” another said.
“Over Odyssey Sims who is like a foot shorter,” one fan added.
“Celebrating a normal lay-up like she broke someones ankle and then dunked it over another,” one fan wrote.
“Players who make baskets often act like it’s no big deal. Not AR, she’s gonna rub this rare occasion in your face,” another said.
Angel Reese improved to 3-0 against Paige Bueckers
Angel Reese continued to dominate matchups against her close friend and USA teammate Paige Bueckers in the WNBA. Reese has improved to 3-0 in the pros. Last year, Reese got two of those wins as a member of the Sky.
Bueckers had an underwhelming outing on Tuesday. She managed only 15 points, shooting 41.7% from the field. In the season-opener against Caitlin Clark’s Fever, Bueckers went off for 20 points on 8 of 10 shots.
For Angel Reese, it was her second consecutive double-double to start the season. She had 11 points, 14 rebounds, two steals and two blocks in her franchise debut for the Dream on Saturday against Minnesota. If this run for the Dream sustains, Reese would be on course to make her first WNBA playoffs appearance this season.
