Are the Washington Huskies Underrated? What the Latest 2025 Power Rankings Say About Jedd Fisch’s Squad

The Washington Huskies had a good season last year, but some feel they can do better in the upcoming 2025 season.

The Huskies are gearing up to make a run for the national championship, and head coach Jedd Fisch feels confident about their chances. But some have questioned the team, considering their dropoff from actively contending for a national championship in 2023.

But according to the recent ranking from College Sports Network, while the Huskies don’t crack the top 25 of the best teams in the nation, there’s a lot of promise to be found on the roster. Ranked at No. 44, their hopes rest on Demond Williams Jr., who is slated to be the starting quarterback.

In limited action, he threw for eight touchdowns and 944 yards, with a completion rate of 78.1%

Fisch tapped into the winter transfer portal and snagged Tacario Davis, rated as the top cornerback and a player he was familiar with from his time coaching at Arizona. Davis’ teaming up with Ephesians Prysock makes them one of the more formidable cornerback duos in the nation.

Another transfer addition is former Kansas State tackle Carver Willis, who helps to shore up the offensive line, which was an issue for Washington last season. Willis started in 11 of 12 games for the Wildcats in 2024 and earned honorable mention All-Big 12 from the coaches in 2023.

The addition of Kodi Greene, a 6’7″, 290-pound lineman from California powerhouse Mater Dei, will provide serious protection. To further help Williams out, running back Jonah Coleman is returning for another season after opting not to go into the NFL Draft.

The moves have secured the Huskies’ ranking at No. 7 in the Big Ten in terms of total talent, according to the Huskies Wire. According to Fox Sports, their moves ranked them at No. 5 in their conference in terms of talent for 2025.

And referring back to the initial ranking, they actually rank ahead of SEC powerhouse Alabama in terms of talent, proving that there could be major success ahead for the purple and gold.
