Virginia Tech Transfer Portal Tracker: Full List Of Players Leaving Hokies After Brent Pry Firing Ft. Dante Lovett

The Virginia Tech Hokies’ season took a sudden turn this past Sunday when the administration finally made the move that several fans have been clamoring for. Following a home 45-26 loss to Old Dominion that dropped the team to 0-3, head coach Brent Pry has been relieved of his duties.

The transfer portal opens on Monday, Sept. 15th, and it is a 30-day period that automatically opens when a head coach is fired. His exit marks what could be an indication of a mass exodus from Hokie Nation.

The timing of Pry’s firing did not occur by chance. The decision to fire him after just three games could be viewed as a smart decision from the entire administration for the current players who are still remaining on the roster. The NCAA has a specific rule that if a player plays in four games, they will lose their redshirt eligibility. Firing Pry early in the season sustains the redshirt possibility for every single player on the current Hokie squad.

This good timing provides Hokie players a chance to possibly make decisions they have never had before in their college decision-making process. They can either commit to finishing the season with an acting head coach, or hasten their redshirt eligibility and see what new opportunities have or if they are offered any new opportunities to add to their experience.

Virginia Tech Transfer Portal Tracker: List Of players Leaving Post Pry’s Dismissal

    1. Dante Lovett (Cornerback)

Just hours after the change in coaches occurred, cornerback Dante Lovett became the first domino to fall. The defensive back has officially entered the transfer portal.

Lovett was likely to leave the program and not surprise anyone following the program closely. Simply put, Lovett was buried on the depth chart this season as the 5th cornerback, and could hardly get on the field despite displaying flashes in past seasons. After three games, he has six tackles. Lovett has not been able to get on the field for any significant time. At that point, a transfer was essentially inevitable.

The lack of opportunities in Virginia probably had to be frustrating for a player of Lovett’s ability. For Lovett, he is currently thinking about finding a new place to fulfil his desire to play with significant game time and growth.
