With the Big Ten expanding and adding four new teams — Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Washington — the conference has shifted away from divisions and created a new scheduling format. UCLA, as one of the new teams, has to adjust to a totally new format and road travel.
How does this expansion change the Bruins’ 2024 football schedule?

The 2024 Big Ten football season will feature a combination of protected opponents and rotating opponents for each university. Each member institution will continue to play nine intraconference games per season, and teams will play every other at least twice — once home and once away — and will play rotating opponents no more than three times in a five-year period.

Conference schedules will include 12 protected matchups that will continue to be played annually and feature a combination of historic and geographic rivalries, as well as trophy games. These matchups were finalized in conjunction with all 18 member institutions to ensure the traditions of the Big Ten Conference remain strong as the conference evolves.
The UCLA Bruins will play all three Pac-12 rivals in their first season in the Big Ten this year and play rival USC at home. UCLA avoids both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines. Their only marquee road game in Big Ten play is against the Penn State Nittany Lions on October 5.
