UAB Blazers Depth Chart

The UAB Blazers college football program represents the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the sport of American football. Established in 1991, the Blazers are a proud member of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and compete in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) as of the 2023 season, following a move from Conference USA (C-USA).
The team plays its home games at Protective Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility located in the heart of downtown Birmingham, Alabama. Opened in 2021, Protective Stadium boasts a seating capacity of approximately 47,100, offering fans a modern and vibrant atmosphere to support their team. Prior to this, the Blazers played at the historic Legion Field, which served as their home from 1991 to 2020.
The UAB Blazers are known for their resilience and tenacity, having faced significant challenges in their relatively short history. In December 2014, the university announced the controversial decision to terminate the football program, citing financial difficulties. This decision was met with widespread backlash from students, alumni, and the Birmingham community. In response to the outpouring of support and financial contributions, UAB reinstated the football program in June 2015, a mere six months after its termination.
Under the leadership of head coach Bill Clark, who took over the program in 2014, the Blazers have experienced a remarkable resurgence. The team returned to the field in 2017 and quickly found success, capturing the C-USA Championship in 2018 and again in 2020. Coach Clark's efforts have earned him numerous accolades, including the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year Award in 2018.
The Blazers' mascot, Blaze the Dragon, symbolizes the team's fiery spirit and determination. The program has cultivated a passionate fan base and has developed several players who have gone on to play professionally in the NFL.
The UAB Blazers continue to build their legacy, striving for excellence both on and off the field while making significant contributions to the vibrant football culture in Birmingham, Alabama.
