Ty Simpson Draft Stock: Where the Alabama QB Stands Right Now After CFP Loss?

Alabama Crimson Tide starting quarterback Ty Simpson may have to think twice about entering his name into this year’s NFL Draft versus extending his college football career. The senior recently finished his fourth and possibly final campaign of his collegiate football tenure with coach Kalen DeBoer‘s Crimson Tide.

Given that Simpson headed into the offseason as one of the most highly touted prospects at his position for the league come this year’s draft, he may have to re-evaluate where he stands now, given the recent developments towards his draft stock. Simpson and his team were thrashed by coach Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers on the first day of 2026 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

The aforementioned defeat came in the college football playoff quarterfinals, where the Crimson Tide were beaten by an astounding 35 points, 38-3. Several reports suggest that Simpson should play out a fifth year of college football with his team to try to make up for the loss to his draft stock. Many believe there is still much of Simpson’s playing style that is yet to be seen.

Simspon had to play second or third fiddle to the likes of former Alabama standouts Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe for the majority of his collegiate tenure, with him being handed the reins of the Crimson Tide offense in full just recently. Playing out one more year with Alabama may allow Simpson to better his NFL Draft stock and showcase more of his abilities as a starting quarterback for a premier program.

Ty Simpson May Also Be Dealing With An Injury Heading Into The 2026 Offseason

A few reports also suggest that Ty Simpson may be dealing with an injury, as he was infamously benched during the second half of the aforementioned college football playoff quarterfinal clash. Simpson has until Jan. 23 to decide whether he’ll return to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

“Felt like I had a good thing going on that drive when I got hit. It kind of changed the momentum for sure…The competitor in me wanted to make sure I got the first down. Got more than the first down, and then should have been smart and just got down,” Simpson said in the post-game press conference.
