Is Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka Dallas Bound in 2025 NFL Draft? Exploring His Connection to the Cowboys Staff

With the 2025 NFL Draft a day away, teams are beginning to finalize who they want to take and who may make their team better. For the Dallas Cowboys, they already have a connection with one of the top wide receivers in the entire draft class, Ohio State Buckeye Emeka Egbuka.

For a team like the Cowboys, drafting a wide receiver could be in their best interest, as they already have their franchise quarterback in Dak Prescott. Why Emeka Egbuka’s Dallas Cowboys Fit Is Gaining Buzz

There is very little question about what the Cowboys truly need when it comes to the 2025 NFL Draft, the answer is rather simple: wide receiver or running back. However, it’s getting their guy that can be the tough part.

With the top running back, Ashton Jeanty, likely off the board by the time the Cowboys make their first pick at No. 12 overall, the overwhelming consensus is that the Cowboys will indeed look for a receiver in Round 1 instead. Their target receiver, Egbuka, already has connections to the Dallas coaching staff.

Cowboys Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer mentioned how the former college coaches on staff will be able to apply knowledge they have from recruiting players in this draft class out of high school. One name that immediately came to mind was Ohio State’s receiver, Egbuka.

Wide Receiver coach Junior Adams recruited Egbuka in 2020 while he was 50 miles from his hometown of Steilacoom at Washington. Egbuka developed a great relationship with Adams, who had a lot of praise for him. “He’s awesome. I love talking to him. We stayed connected all four years I was in college.”

Adams also coached Egbuka’s high school receivers coach at Eastern Washington from 2009 to 2013. Despite not being the most popular receiver in this draft, being behind Matthew Golden and Tetairoa McMillan, Egbuka could certainly find his way to the Dallas football team.

According to Zack Wolchuck of 105.3 The Fan, there is another name the team should consider, and that comes in Egbuka.
“I would be pushing for Egbuka as a player we don’t talk enough about at 12. One of the cleanest players in this year’s class. Does all the dirty work. Great route runner. More explosive than people are giving him credit for. He would be the player I would be looking at if no Tet.”
In his career with the Buckeyes, Egbuka has two 1,000-yard seasons under his belt. This includes catching 74 passes for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore in just 13 games. Despite taking a back seat to Jeremiah Smith in 2024, Egbuka still had a great year.
Egbuka caught a career-best 81 passes for 1,011 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024. He more than played his part in helping the Buckeyes bring home the National Championship. Egbuka looks to continue his great play in the NFL, and it could very well be for the Cowboys.
It remains to be seen how things will play out. Should Golden or McMillan be both available by the time Dallas picks at No. 12, will they still be looking at Egbuka? With the connection Egbuka has to the Cowboys coaching staff, don’t be surprised to see Egbuka chosen as the Cowboys’ next big receiving threat.
