Venus Williams Wants To Break 18-Year Record With Sister Serena Williams At Wimbledon

Venus Williams recently opened up about her goal to surpass her 18-year-old record with Serena Williams at Wimbledon. She spoke about her goal, recalling her stellar serve she made almost two decades ago at the tournament.

Williams’ most recent appearance came at the Bad Homburg Open, where her campaign ended in a heartbreak with a first-round defeat. The American took on Irina-Camelia Begu on June 22 but fell short in a hard-fought battle, losing 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(6). Following the early exit, she has turned her focus to the Wimbledon Championships, where she is set to compete in the doubles event alongside her sister, Serena.

As she continues her preparations for the Grand Slam, Venus recently took a trip down memory lane by sharing a video of her impressive 129 mph serve at Wimbledon in 2008. The serve remains the fastest recorded in the history of the women’s event at the Championships. Posting the clip on her Instagram story, the seven-time Grand Slam champion wrote:

“What in the world? I can’t remember hitting a serve this fast ever. How did I miss it? It’s the only way to survive against @serenwilliams.”

Following that, she also shared a video in which she spoke about her desire to break the 18-year-old record during her upcoming Wimbledon campaign alongside her sister, Serena Williams.

“So I definitely don’t remember ever hitting a serve at 129 miles an hour. But I know the Williams sisters hit hard, and I saw Serena in her first tournament hit serves in the 120s and it was crazy. I think it definitely hit some in the 120s this week. So I think both of us have to see maybe how hard we can hit it. Can we get past 130? That’s never the goal when I’m hitting serves. It just comes out hard when they’re like seeing how hard can I hit it. So maybe that should be one of our goals at Wimbledon like. Try to hit it hard and see how hard it goes,” said Venus Williams.

Venus Williams opened up about having no advice for Serena Williams on her comeback

Venus Williams recently sat down for an interview with Grazia, published on June 23, 2026, where she spoke about several aspects of her tennis journey and future goals. During the conversation, the American was also asked about her reaction to Serena Williams’ decision to return to the sport after nearly four years away and what she told her sister following the announcement.

The 46-year-old revealed that she said nothing to her sister following the announcement. Explaining why she chose not to offer any advice, she said:

“Nothing. I always let her make her own decisions. Even when she stopped playing the first time, she was the best in the world. There is no doubt. And even now, she has the potential – and she does, if she wanted to. It’s about support – watching, waiting, seeing what happens and then just being her biggest cheerleader,” said Venus Williams.

Venus and Serena Williams have enjoyed one of the most successful partnerships in tennis history, competing together in 37 official doubles tournaments on the WTA Tour. They are the only pair to complete a Career Golden Slam in doubles.
