The finalists from last year, Poland and the USA, will face off in the semifinals of the United Cup this time around. As the second tie of the day, they will be preceded by the clash between Switzerland and Belgium.
Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz lead the line for America on Saturday, while Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz are the flag-bearers for Poland. The Swiss contingent is led by Belinda Bencic and Stan Wawrinka, with Zizou Bergs and Elise Mertens appointed as Belgium’s biggest hopes.
Without further ado, we take a look at the prospects of the biggest names in action on Day 9 of the 2026 United Cup:
Stan Wawrinka vs Zizou Bergs
Stan Wawrinka started the United Cup strong, beating Arthur Rinderknech in a tight three-setter. He went three sets in the next clash again, losing to Flavio Cobolli. In the quarterfinals vs Team Argentina, the Swiss fell in straight sets to Sebastian Baez, perhaps showing that the physical demands are catching up with him.
On the other hand, Zizou Bergs is unbeaten at the tournament, having rallied past Zhang Zhizhen, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jakub Mensik. In the form of his life this week, the Belgium should be seen as the favorite in this battle.
Prediction: Bergs in straight sets
Coco Gauff vs Iga Swiatek
The marquee clash of the day sees Iga Swiatek taking on Coco Gauff, a battle between the World No. 2 and the World No. 3 on the WTA Tour.
Gauff lost one match at the tournament in the lead-up, falling to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. On the other hand, Swiatek is unbeaten, and appears as strong as she did at the tournament last season. While the head-to-head between the two is 11-4 in favor of Swiatek, Gauff is on a three-match winning streak against the Pole.
In the quarterfinals, both Gauff and Swiatek got solid wins under their belt. But right now, by a very small margin, Swiatek looks more likely to win.
Prediction: Swiatek in three sets
Belinda Bencic vs Elise Mertens
Belinda Bencic, Switzerland’s great hope, is unbeaten at the United Cup so far. Elise Mertens, meanwhile, lost to Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinals, but won a convincing victory against Victoria Mboko before that. As things stand now, Bencic is the more in-form player and more likely of the two to seize the match by the scruff of its neck.
Prediction: Bencic in straight sets
Taylor Fritz vs Hubert Hurkacz
Taylor Fritz had a horrible start to the year, losing to Sebastian Baez in the first match and then to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals. On the other hand, Hubert Hurkacz, just now coming back from an injury, stunned Alexander Zverev in his opener. Although he lost to Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals, expect the big-serving Pole to get the job done on Saturday.
Prediction: Hurkacz in three sets
