Top seed Elina Svitolina will take on Katie Boulter in the second round of the ASB Classic 2026 in Auckland.
Svitolina commenced her journey in Auckland against Varvara Gracheva. The Ukrainian went down a break at the start of the first set but didn’t waste any time in getting back on serve. She eventually captured the set with a three-game run towards the end.
The pair started the second set by trading breaks. It was one-way traffic in Svitolina’s direction after that. She reeled off five games on the trot to register a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Boulter was up against Yuliia Starodubtseva in the first round. The Brit was off to a fast start, racing to a 3-0 lead in the first set. While her opponent managed to retrieve one of the breaks, she didn’t relinquish her lead completely. She snagged another break of serve in the final game of the set to take it.
Boulter seemed to be in a hurry to finish the match, going 5-0 up in a matter of minutes in the second set. Starodubtseva went on her own three-game run to halt her rival’s momentum. However, Boulter managed to serve out the match on her second attempt for a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Both players played pretty well in the previous round, especially Svitolina. Despite some setbacks in 2025, she had a rather solid season. She posted a 36-15 record last year, won her 18th career title in Rouen, and reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the French Open.
Boulter’s 2025 season wasn’t as memorable. She started the year ranked within the top 25 and eventually dropped out of the top 100 by the end of the season. Fortunately for her, there’s no way to go but up after last year’s string of disappointing results.
Svitolina finished as the runner-up to Coco Gauff in her only prior appearance at the ASB Classic in 2024. Boulter’s win over Starodubtseva was her first main draw in Auckland. She lost her previous meeting against the Ukrainian quite handily. Her 4-19 career record against top 20 players on hardcourts doesn’t inspire confidence in her chances this time either. The Brit will head into this contest as the massive underdog.
