Ons Jabeur Explains 2 Coco Gauff Shots That Give Her Grand Slam Titles

Coco Gauff’s serve and forehand have come under fire repeatedly over the years. However, despite the widespread criticism of the American WTA star’s shots, Ons Jabeur believes that both of them happen to be ‘unbelievable’ and that Gauff wouldn’t have won even a single Major title had they not been as good as they are in the Tunisian’s opinion.

Gauff’s serve and forehand are often regarded as the weakest parts of her game. In 2025, the 21-year-old hit 431 double faults. No one else on the WTA Tour hit more. Touching on the two-time singles Slam champion’s often-criticized shots, Ons Jabeur recently told Kim Clijsters on the Love All Podcast:

“I feel like she has an unbelievable forehand and serve. Those two things most of the people are criticizing. If it wasn’t for these two shots she would never win a Grand Slam you know?”

Jabeur, a former World No. 2 who is currently inactive due to being pregnant with her first child, went on to suggest that it’s Gauff’s overall game that needs to be adjusted better to different conditions spanning various tournaments. Confident that the American has it in her to make the necessary changes, the 31-year-old Tunisian added:

“She needs to adapt it to just becoming better. She did it before, so I’m sure she can do it again.”

Ons Jabeur Disclosed Her Favorite Thing About Coco Gauff In 2024

At the 2024 French Open, Gauff defeated Jabeur in the quarterfinals in three sets to reach the semis of the clay Major. Following the result, the Tunisian interacted with journalists at a press conference, and here, she spoke highly of the American’s ‘fighting spirit’, saying:

“I think Coco is an amazing player. My favorite thing about Coco is her fighting spirit. I think she’s playing great tennis right now, but I saw her playing better before. Obviously she’s such a fighter, she always tries to find ways, she’s really smart on the court.”

At the time, Gauff was only 20 years old and a one-time singles Major champion courtesy her women’s singles title triumph at the 2023 US Open. The American went on to win her second singles Slam at the 2025 French Open, once again coming out on top against Aryna Sabalenka in the final.

Right now, Gauff is in Australia for Team USA’s title defense at the 2026 United Cup. So far, things are going great for the World No. 4, with the USA having reached the event’s semifinals, where either Poland or Australia will face the American contingent.
