Hong Kong Tennis Open 2026 Day 6 Predictions for Giron vs Mmoh, Bublik vs Shang, & more

The 2026 Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open has entered Day 6 quarterfinal action at Victoria Park Tennis Stadium in Hong Kong. Several top ATP stars, including Alexander Bublik, will be in action to advance into the semifinals.

Four quarterfinal draws are set to be played on Friday, January 9. Top seed Lorenzo Mussetti will face Coleman Wong, followed by third-seeded Andrey Rublev playing against Nuno Borges. The next two draws, involving Alexander Bublik against Juncheng Shang and Marcos Giron against Michael Mmoh, will not be played before 6:00 in the evening.

#1. Lorenzo Musetti (1) vs Coleman Wong (WC)

Prediction: Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets

Lorenzo Mussetti has made it to this stage of the tournament after a strong finish in three-sets battle against Tomás Martín Etcheverry in his opening match. While he struggled, it doesn’t deny that Mussetti is far better than wild-card Coleman Wong, at least in the eyes of the oddsmakers.

On the other hand, Wong is on a historic run, becoming the first Hong Kong player to reach an ATP Tour quarterfinal. He’ll have the crowd support behind him, but Mussetti might be too good for him.

The duo previously played against each other two years ago in the same tournament, where the Italian won the Round of 32 matchup, 6-4, 7-5.

#2. Andrey Rublev (3) vs Nuno Borges (8)

Prediction: Andrey Rublev in three sets

This is one of the most competitive quarterfinal draws compared to the rest of the matchups. Andrey Rublev had a slow start in his first set of the tournament, before cruising to win the final two sets and therefore the game.

He’ll be up against Nuno Borges, who defeated veteran tennis star Marin Čilić to reach this stage. So far, the Portuguese challenger has won both of his games in straight sets and is yet to lose a set in the tournament.

That’s why it’s expected that the match might go down to the third set. In the previous two occasions, where they have played, Rublev has found it easy, winning in 2025 Doha and 2024 Basel.

#3. Juncheng Shang (WC) vs Alexander Bublik (2)

Prediction: Alexander Bublik in three sets

Alexander Bublik won convincingly in his opening match against Botic van de Zandschulp to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament. Being a second-seeded player, he should find it easy against his Chinese opponent.

On the other hand, Juncheng Shang has won both of his two matches in straight sets. He reached here after beating fifth-seeded Lorenzo Sonego, 6-3, 6-4.

Interestingly, the head-to-head between the two is led by Shang, 2-1. Shang has emerged winner in their duel in the 2024 Chengdu and 2024 US Open, while Bublik won their 2024 ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells match, 6-4, 6-1.

#4. Marcos Giron vs Michael Mmoh (Q)

Prediction: Michael Mmoh in three sets

This one is interesting, actually. Though Michael Mmoh is a qualifier here, he’s predicted to win his quarterfinal draw against Marcos Giron. There’s a reason for that.

Mmoh is fresh off knocking out fourth seed Karen Khachanov in straight sets to reach the quarters. His fast and flashy start to the season makes him a favorite in his matchup against Giron, who is coming off two straight set finishes in his last two matches.

The head-to-head between the two favors Mmoh, 2-1. Mmoh won against Giron in the 2023 Winston-Salem and 2023 Acapulco. Giron won the encounter in 2021.
