The Tennessee Volunteers suffered one of their most heartbreaking losses of the season so far, as the Georgia Bulldogs clawed their way back for a 44-41 win on Saturday. This loss stung, particularly to Vols quarterback Joey Aguilar, who played well despite the loss. One day after the defeat, his girlfriend, Rylan Moffitt, sent him a heartwarming message on an Instagram post with a carousel of photos and videos with moments from the game.
“not one moment wasted on Rocky Top,” she wrote in the caption.

Tennessee started strong, leading with a commanding 21-7 in the first quarter. However, the Bulldogs started clawing their way back in the second quarter. Finally they turned the game against the Vols in the fourth quarter after trailing for much of the game, winning by just three points in overtime.
Aguilar was impressive as Tennessee’s new QB1, throwing for 371 yards and four touchdowns. He even rushed in the game that eventually led to a touchdown. Meanwhile, his Georgia counterpart, Gunner Stockton, threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns, and he also had a rushing TD himself.
Joey Aguilar transferred over from Appalachian State after two seasons there. He made his decision to choose Tennessee right after Nico Iamaleava made his surprise transfer to UCLA and shocking the college football world. He then joined the quarterback battle against Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre and eventually came out on top, landing the starting position.
He immediately proved himself, as the Vols defeated Syracuse in their opener, throwing for 247 yards and 3 touchdowns. Aguilar is expected to start once again in the Vols’ next game, which is against UAB Blazers next Saturday.

Joey Aguilar Made History in Loss vs. Georgia
Despite the loss, it was also a career game for QB1 Joey Aguilar, who was also playing in his SEC debut against Georgia. He is now the first SEC quarterback in 20 seasons to go 14-for-14 or better in any quarter, with this being from the 21-point start that the Vols had in the first quarter.
The Vols had three touchdowns in that quarter, and Joey Aguilar was involved in all of them, with the first two being given to Chris Brazzell, who caught four of Aguilar’s passes in the opening quarter.
He also threw a 72-yard touchdown pass, which is now the second-longest play of the season for Tennessee. His 73-yard pass to Braylon Staley against Syracuse is still considered the longest so far. He has now thrown for 535 yards and has completed 39 of his 59 passes during his first few games as a Vol.
