The road to the NFL has been a rocky one for Shedeur Sanders. The former Colorado Buffaloes star, who was expected to be selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, went on a stunning free fall before the Cleveland Browns snapped him up with the 144th overall pick in the fifth round.
Sanders hasn’t made his professional debut for Cleveland yet, but trade rumors are already swirling for the rookie quarterback. With the start of the 2025 NFL season fast approaching, here are the top five potential landing spots for Deion Sanders’ son.

NFL Trade Rumors: Top 5 Potential Landing Spots for Shedeur Sanders
1. Los Angeles Rams
Training camp reps have been hard to come by for Shedeur Sanders in Cleveland, with the Browns giving more opportunities to veteran starter Joe Flacco and rookie Dillon Gabriel. Kenny Pickett’s injury has given Sanders more chances to perform under center lately.
It may be better for Sanders to gain experience with another team in his first year in the NFL than with the Browns. The Los Angeles Rams could be an attractive option for the 23-year-old if they trade for him. Sanders would benefit by being in the same quarterback room as Matthew Stafford, who won a Super Bowl title with the Rams in 2022.
The Rams need to shore up their quarterback ranks, as Stafford isn’t getting any younger. Sanders would fit in nicely at LA and learn Sean McVay’s system as the Rams’ developmental QB behind Stafford and backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

2. Buffalo Bills
The same scenario applies to the Buffalo Bills, who could definitely use Shedeur Sanders this coming season to provide some depth in their quarterback ranks. Josh Allen is the Bills’ QB1, with Mitchell Trubisky serving as his backup again this coming season. Sanders would benefit as well if a trade to Buffalo pushes through, as he will get valuable knowledge from the two veteran NFL quarterbacks.
3. New York Jets
The New York Jets heaved a huge sigh of relief when starting quarterback Justin Fields avoided serious injury during their training camp last Thursday. The former Chicago Bears star dislocated his right toe, but he is expected to be fit and ready to go for the Jets’ season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 7.
That being said, it wouldn’t hurt the Jets to explore other quarterback options to add some depth to their roster. Shedeur Sanders is one possibility for New York, given his current situation in Cleveland. He will help bolster the Jets’ QB lineup, which includes veteran backup Tyrod Taylor and third-stringer Adrian Martinez.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have the oldest quarterback in the league, as they signed Aaron Rodgers, 41, to a one-year contract. It wouldn’t hurt the Steelers to provide some cover to Rodgers by adding a young talent like Sanders to their roster.
The Steelers were linked to Sanders on draft night before selecting Ohio State star Will Howard in the sixth round. We wouldn’t rule out Pittsburgh from making a move for the embattled quarterback again.
5. Las Vegas Raiders
Geno Smith has reunited with former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll in Las Vegas and will be the Raiders’ starting quarterback in the upcoming season. Shedeur Sanders could be an enticing option for the Raiders, who are looking to add some depth to their quarterback ranks.
Currently, the Raiders have Aidan O’Connell as their backup and Cam Miller as their third-stringer. Carroll wouldn’t mind having Sanders in his lineup after he threw for 7,364 yards and 64 touchdowns during his time at Colorado.
