One NFL coach isn’t mincing words about quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ future in the league. See what Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton had to say about the Colorado quarterback prospect during his 2025 NFL Draft slide.

Sean Payton Predicts Shedeur Sanders Will Star in the NFL, Says the Broncos Are “Full” on Texas Players
As the calamitous fall of Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft is still occurring on its third day, there’s one coach in the NFL who thinks that passing on the quarterback is a huge mistake being made.
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton expressed his take on Sanders at the end of the third round on Friday night (April 26) on ESPN, highlighting his long relationship with the signal-caller and talking about his attendance at Colorado’s pro day earlier in the month.
“We sat there. I watched right behind him, throwing. He had an outstanding pro day,” Payton said of the event, dubbed the “We Ain’t Hard to Find Showcase” by Buffaloes coach and Shedeur’s father, Deion Sanders. “I think we all are surprised, and yet the talent — holy cow, if you’re a team that needs a quarterback.”
Payton’s relationship with Deion Sanders is a lengthy one—he once lived in the same neighborhood as the Sanders family in Dallas, Texas, and knew Shedeur since junior high.
“I saw [Shedeur] when he was in junior high, and then I saw him in high school, and then I saw him when he was a sophomore in high school when they were on their way to Florida,” Payton said. “He’s going to, like there’ll be this chip on his shoulder, and beware because this guy is going to play in this league.”

Payton also jokingly praised players from the University of Texas, noting how many Longhorns have found a home on Denver’s” [W]e are at a max with Texas players,” Payton quipped. “Whoever the next Texas player is, if someone comes in, someone’s got to go.”
