Sam Leavitt Transfer Portal Takes New Turn As $1,120,000,000 Worth SEC Program Joins Race

Former Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Sam Leavitt entered the transfer portal in December 2025. The number one-ranked quarterback has garnered attention and interest from several programs so far.

He has already visited Kentucky and had a good enough time that the program feels good about their chances of landing the 21-year-old. However, there’s a new twist in the tale as another program has joined the race.

As per a recent On3 report, the $1.12 billion worth LSU Tigers have shown interest in signing Leavitt. The Tigers recently signed Lane Kiffin as their new head coach, and he’s doing everything to secure a good roster for his first season with LSU.

Leavitt is slated to arrive at LSU on Monday afternoon and will spend a day and a half with Kiffin and the Tigers. The report suggests that they’ve already had good communication, which has made LSU the next potential destination for Leavitt.

Leavitt arrived in Arizona in 2024 after transferring from Michigan State. He had his breakout year in 2024, putting up his best stats in college football so far. He showcased his dual-threat abilities and made himself one of the most highly touted quarterbacks in the country.

He had 2885 passing yards on 216 of 350 attempts and averaged 8.2 yards per attempt. He had 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions throughout the season. Leavitt’s completion percentage was at an impressive 61.7.

The quarterback also had 443 rushing yards on 110 attempts with five touchdowns. His 2025 season was marred by injuries, which is why his numbers have dipped. Regardless, Leavitt is still a very highly touted quarterback in the college football circle.

Sam Leavitt to Kentucky is Still on the Card

The moment LSU joins any race, especially against teams like the Kentucky Wildcats, it’s almost certain that they will end up bagging the player. However, it might be too soon to say the same about Leavitt.

During his visit to Kentucky, Leavitt spent a lot of time with the Wildcats head coach Will Stein. Several reports have stated that the quarterback was seen watching film with Leavitt until midnight on Friday.

The conversations he has had with the program, coupled with what the reports are saying, make a compelling argument that Leavitt might still go to Kentucky. This will be an interesting storyline to follow over the next few days or weeks.
