3 Bold Predictions for Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes in 2025

    1. Kaidon Salter Will Be Colorado’s Starting QB in Week 1 vs. Georgia Tech

We’re nearing the end of July, and Deion Sanders still hasn’t revealed who Colorado’s starting quarterback will be for its Week 1 clash against Georgia Tech. The position opened up for the Buffaloes following Shedeur Sanders’ move to the NFL.

The Colorado head coach revealed at Big 12 media day that he didn’t know who is going to start between Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis in Week 1. Salter transferred to Sanders’ team after playing four seasons with the Liberty Flames. Lewis, on the other hand, is Colorado’s most high-profile recruit since Sanders took over as coach.

We predict that Sanders would go with the more experienced, Salter, as his starter for the season opener. He has been phenomenal the last two seasons for the Flames, amassing 6,438 total yards and 66 total touchdowns.

Salter played his best season in the 2023 campaign, racking up 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns through the air. He also wreaked havoc on the ground, running for 1,089 yards and 12 scores during his sophomore year.

    2. Colorado Will Not Advance to the College Football Playoff

The Colorado Buffaloes will be immediately tested in the 2025 season, as they will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Week 1. The Yellow Jackets have their stars returning this season, including quarterback Haynes King and running back Jamal Haynes.

Colorado will lose its season-opener for the first time since Deion Sanders became the head coach, suffering a narrow defeat against Georgia Tech. That will be the start of a difficult season for the Buffaloes, who will face Houston, BYU, TCU, Iowa State, Utah, Arizona, West Virginia, Arizona State, and Kansas State in their Big 12 schedule.

The Buffaloes will finish the season with a winning record, but they will miss out on a spot in the College Football Playoff.

    3. Deion Sanders Will Not Finish the 2025 Season As Colorado’s Head Coach

Health issues have hounded Deion Sanders ever since he began coaching in the NCAA. Apart from having blood clots in his legs, Sanders had two of his toes on his left foot amputated in 2021 when he was the coach at Jackson State. The blood clots resurfaced in 2023, forcing him to have surgery to solve the problem.

Coach Prime once again dealt with an undisclosed medical issue this year, forcing him to miss part of Colorado’s spring and early summer activities. Sanders reassured fans that he is fine ahead of the 2025 season, as he showed up at the Buffaloes’ Big 12 media day last week.

Sanders’ health condition will be a regular talking point for fans and the media as the 2025 season gets underway. A poor start for Colorado next season may force Sanders to prioritize his health over coaching the Buffaloes.
