Pete Lembo enjoyed highly successful tenures as a head coach with Lehigh, Elon, and Ball State in the early 2000s but resigned to become a special teams coordinator at Maryland and quickly became one of the top assistant coaches in the country at several stops.
Now, he’s taking another head coaching job, this time at Buffalo. What is Lembo’s salary, contract, and net worth?
Pete Lembo’s Salary and Contract in 2024
Pete Lembo spent the last three years as one of the top special teams coordinators in the country at South Carolina, but when Maurice Linguist left Buffalo to become defensive coordinator at Alabama, Lembo decided it was time to return to the head coaching ranks.
Buffalo zeroed in on Lembo early in the process and offered him a 5-year contract from mid-January through December 31, 2028.
Lembo actually took a pretty significant pay cut to join the Bulls, moving from an annual salary of nearly $800,000 to a base salary of $500,000 at Buffalo.
He will receive additional compensation of up to $225,000 for wins and postseason berths, according to the Buffalo News. His $500,000 base salary is lower than Linguist’s final year salary of $625,000.
Lembo’s Net Worth
Lembo has always been well-compensated as an assistant coach. In 2019, he was part of a Memphis staff that was the highest-paid assistant coaching staff in the Group of Five.
When he was at South Carolina, Lembo began by making $465,000 before receiving a huge raise for the 2023 season, putting him over $700,000 before incentives.
Lembo went to South Carolina knowing he’d like to make his way back into head coaching eventually, and Shane Beamer accommodated that with the way Lembo’s contract was written.

While Lembo had a $400,000 buyout, his move to Buffalo did not trigger that clause, as any move to become a head coach was explicitly excluded.
Lembo has made nearly $5 million since moving to the FBS level. Because of this, his net worth could be between $2 and $4 million.
