Current Ole Miss Rebels coach Pete Golding has given his two cents on the drama between two individuals who have since presumably left the program he is now spearheading. On Saturday, Jan. 3, college football writer Brad Logan released a report on his X/Twitter account that quotes Golding for his exact thoughts on the ongoing miscommunication between newly minted LSU Tigers coach Lane Kiffin and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr.
This is because reports have been flying everywhere on social media that Weis has seemingly returned to the LSU campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to help out with Kiffin’s program, such as recruiting the likes of Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Brendan Sorsby who is visiting the Tigers campus. With this, it seems as though Weis is now going with his inevitable exit from the Rebels already and joining LSU to leave Golding.
“We have plenty of people in the building to do the job if the others don’t show up. I do not know if they will be back or not, but Charlie Weis will be and that’s what is important,” Golding was quoted as saying.

Having all of this said, coach Golding will now go through their all-important 2025 college football playoff semifinal versus coach Mario Cristobal’s Miami Hurricanes on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona for the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl without the services of Weis. The Rebels are coming off of their postseason quarterfinal victory over coach Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs by five points, 39-34, on the first day of 2026.

In another report made by writer Chris Low that’s published on On3 on the same day, Pete Golding was asked during a teleconference earlier about how he thinks his team will fare even with the ongoing back-and-forth of coaching setups with a rival program in the LSU Tigers. For Golding, it’s actually the Tigers who have been in charge of calling the shots while his Rebels remain grounded and focused on their actual goal.
“I don’t know. Do you know if you’re going to show up at work tomorrow? I mean, we don’t know. It’s grown people making decisions, so I have no idea. We’re going to go out there and spot the ball. We’ve got plenty enough people in this building who showed up this morning. We’ll be just fine,” Golding shared.
