With just over a minute left in the first half of the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship, Ohio State Buckeyes QB Will Howard etched his name into CFP history.
Will Howard Breaks CFP National Championship Record vs. Notre Dame
Howard completed 13 consecutive passes to start the game, setting the record for the most consecutive completions in a CFP National Championship Game.
The previous record was held by Alabama Crimson Tide signal-caller Mac Jones, who completed 12 straight vs. Ohio State in the 2021 national title.

The Buckeyes signal-caller went 13 of 13 for 138 yards and one touchdown before finally throwing a red-zone incompletion to RB TreVeyon Henderson with 1:12 left in the second quarter.
However, his next pass attempt was a six-yard scoring strike to RB Quinshon Judkins to put Ohio State up 21-7 entering halftime.
Howard also rushed six times for 29 yards, bringing his total output to 173 at the half. Arguably more impressive is the fact that Ohio State went a perfect 6 of 6 on third downs, extending their three first-half drives — all of which ended in touchdowns.

Ohio State won the coin toss and will, therefore, receive the ball to start the second half, putting even more pressure on Notre Dame to come up with a stop. If the Irish don’t, the game could become out of reach.
