Kalen DeBoer is far from winning the confidence of Alabama fans. Joining the Crimson Tide as their head coach after a legendary run from Nick Saban was never going to be an easy task. But what DeBoer is facing must be beyond his wildest imagination.
The Crimson Tide faced a humiliating 17-31 loss against the Florida State Seminoles on their season opener. And that led DeBoer, who was already operating on a short leash, to become an even bigger problem for the fans.
A longtime Alabama donor, worthy of being put on the Donor’s Hall of Fame list, told On3 that the issue isn’t just spoiled fans but a team that looks uninspired despite having more talent than its opponents. Power brokers and boosters are worried about the program’s lack of toughness and focus.
On3 posted the news on X, which garnered hundreds of responses from football fans. Needless to say, most of them laughed at the state of the program.
“LOL, NEWSFLASH, There’s only one Nick Saban. Alabama is mortal again. Bunch of spoiled sh*ts,” a fan wrote.

“Yeah they are screwed and they really can’t do anything about it,” another commented.
“Every loss DeBoer is gonna take will just make the drum beat louder. The second half of the season looks very tough right now,” a fan wrote.
“He was obviously not a fit there from day one. But also there will never be another Saban,” another commented.
“If Deboer doesn’t make it as long as Harsin bama fans are never allowed to mention harsins name again,” a fan posted.
“Spoiled mentality,” a fan wrote.
The numbers tell the story. Alabama is 5-5 in its last 10 games, with four losses to unranked teams. Saban, by contrast, won 100 straight against unranked opponents. While the fans are just trolling DeBoer and Alabama, the media has an even worse stance on the issue.

Stephen A. Smith wants Kalen DeBoer to be fired
When a program has had a glorious past, it becomes tricky for any new coach to fill in the shoes. Kalen DeBoer is not an ordinary coach by any metric. He has won championships, Coach of the Year titles, among other accolades.
But in this case, he is the follow-up act after Nick Saban. Every wrong play, missed opportunity, or loss gets magnified, and he faces scrutiny. Recently, Stephen A. Smith went off on DeBoer on an episode of First Take.
Referring to the poor mentality of the team, especially after how they reacted to Tommy Castellanos’ comment, SAS called for Alabama to fire their head coach.
“Who would’ve ever thought that somebody would have the audacity, the unmitigated goal to call out Nick Saban,” Smith said (12:13). “They would never. But they did it, why? Because Kalen DeBoer is coaching them…The days of Alabama with Nick Saban are gone.”
While the Saban era is over, and it’s unlikely he’ll come back to save them, the Crimson Tide must find their rhythm and get rid of the public ridicule.
