Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has not had the second season fans were hoping for following his tremendous rookie year. He has only appeared in five games this season because of various injuries, and his completion percentage has dropped from 69% to 61%. After missing two games earlier this season, Daniels returned in early October and has played the past three games for the Commanders.
However, on Sunday against Dallas, Daniels exited the game with a hamstring injury.
What Happened to Jayden Daniels?
Jayden Daniels completed 12 of 22 passing attempts for 156 yards and one TD against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. However, he suffered a hamstring injury early in the second half. While he was able to limp off the field and broadcast cameras caught him jogging to the locker room, he was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game.
Will Jayden Daniels Play Week 8?
No, the Washington Commanders have officially ruled out Jayden Daniels for Monday night’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. According to Adam Schefter, veteran Marcus Mariota will start in his place as Daniels continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Head coach Dan Quinn had previously indicated the injury was not considered long-term, but the team is taking a cautious approach with its rookie quarterback. The extra day of rest from the Monday night game wasn’t enough for Daniels to get cleared, and Washington will prioritize his full recovery before returning him to action.
Jayden Daniels Fantasy Outlook
With Daniels officially out, fantasy managers should look for a one-week replacement at quarterback. Marcus Mariota will take over starting duties, but his fantasy upside is limited outside of deep two-QB or superflex formats.
The positive takeaway is that Daniels’ hamstring issue isn’t expected to sideline him long-term. Managers should hold onto him in all formats, as he remains a strong dual-threat option once healthy. However, for Week 8, he should be firmly on fantasy benches while he rehabs for a likely return in Week 9.
