The Baltimore Ravens came into the game as one of the heavy favorites to make it to the Super Bowl. However, the team has been struggling and they even got dominated by the Houston Texans of all teams, 44-10. This has led Stephen A. Smith to poke fun at head coach John Harbaugh over the team’s 1-4 start despite having a very solid team on paper.
“We gotta ask ourselves, how great are you, or if you’ve been riding the coattails of somebody like Lamar Jackson? Because I’m looking at the Baltimore Ravens right now, they don’t resemble themselves,” he said. ”
“We haven’t seen a John Harbaugh-coached team look this pathetic in quite some time and then they get upset because the Houston Texans come into your house and somebody scores a touchdown and they doing a Ray Lewis dance. You showed more fight trying to snatch the football away from them than you did during the game than you did doing actual competition. I meanit’s just embarrassing,” Smith added.
Smith did give Harbaugh his props, saying that he had been a Super Bowl champion with a great playoff record. However, he questioned the coach’s overall record as he also lost 17 double-digit fourth quarter leads and has been unable to return to the Super Bowl with a quarterback like Lamar Jackson leading them.
The “First Take” host continued that he would like to ask Harbaugh what is going on with the team and why are they having a lot of problems this early in the season. He noted that the coach has not been taking measures to correct his team’s course.
After that embracing loss to Houston, the Ravens now have a 1-4 record, which is now considered the worst five-game start in franchise history.
John Harbaugh Stands By His Staff After Blowout Loss vs. Texans
After that loss at home, John Harbaugh and his staff have come under fire, particularly defensive coordinator Zach Orr, who many are blaming for the Ravens’ poor defensive performance during the first five games. However, Harbaugh is standing by Orr.
In Orr’s defense, Harbaugh stated that firing him is not the answer and that the team needs to stick together. He also pointed out that the Ravens had been missing several key defensive players due to injury, and they are cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Marlon Humphrey, safety Kyle Hamilton and linebacker Roquan Smith.
