For the last few weeks, the Chiefs fans have been battling the thought that the dynasty built under Patrick Mahomes might be coming to an end. When the dreaded moment finally arrived, the Chiefs were met with more trauma than they were prepared for.
In the final minutes of the game against the Chargers, Mahomes suffered a serious knee injury. A video of the moment he got injured shows Mahomes’ left foot landing awkwardly on the ground, and he immediately went down.
With 20 seconds to go in the fourth quarter, Mahomes was helped by staff members into the locker room. The game was 16-13 when he left with the Chargers in the lead, and that’s where the story ended.

However, some fans believed that he was faking the injury. Even though the footage clearly shows the impact the awkward landing had on his left foot, it wasn’t enough to convince those who had already made up their minds about it.
“Since no playoffs, he did this,” a fan wrote.

“Emotional support, that’s all,” a fan wrote.
“Going out sad asf coz you know you won’t make playoffs lmao,” a fan wrote.
“of course he got “injured” just before being eliminated. If it means no more national kansas swifite games or romo and collinsworth creaming themselves in the booth this is a great sight,” a fan wrote.
“If we’re being honest, he’s gonna be golfing in about a week or two he just loves playing it out with the cameras,” a fan wrote.
The Chiefs have arguably been the most dominant team in the last decade. So, naturally, there were a lot of people waiting for their downfall. Not it’s their time to rejoice.
Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs Are Eliminated
This will be the first NFL playoffs since 2014 without the Kansas City Chiefs. This season was disastrous for them from the beginning. Despite that, no one thought the team that had dominated the game for a decade wouldn’t even make the cut.
Heading into the Chargers game, there were a few scenarios keeping the Chiefs’ hopes alive. They needed to win against the Chargers. Ended up losing 13-16. The Bills’ loss against the Patriots would’ve helped their case; they won 35-31.
The Jets winning against the Jaguars would’ve helped too; they ended up losing 20-48. And to top it all off, the Texans registered a blowout, 40-20 win over the Cardinals.
It’s a day the Chiefs fans, players, coaches, owners, and others would like to move on from. But the stinging reality isn’t going to leave them alone anytime soon. Once again, the Kansas City Chiefs will not be in the NFL playoffs this season.
