Omarion Hampton Injury Update: Will Chargers RB Be Back After Bye Week For Raiders Matchup?

It has been a rough rookie season for running back Omarion Hampton, as he has been out since Week 5 due to an ankle injury. He was placed on the injured reserve and because he has been out for so long, he is now eligible to come back. With the Los Angeles Chargers being on a bye for Week 12, the question now is, can he be healthy enough to return on Week 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders?

He became eligible since Week 10, though the team has not yet activated him since. Omarion Hampton had stepped up for the Chargers after running back Najee Harris had a season-ending injury, which was a torn Achilles tendon. The team’s running back woes continued when Hampton himself got injured, though Kimani Vidal has been solid as the current starter for the team.

Bye weeks usually are welcomed by teams dealing with a ton of injured players, as this allows many of them more time to heal up. However, will a one-week break be enough to buy Omarion Hampton time to heal up to 100%?

When Will Omarion Hampton Be Back?

As of writing, Omarion Hampton has still not been activated yet, though this is not that surprising as the Chargers are on a bye-week break. However, Daniel Popper of The Athletic has reported that head coach Jim Harbaugh believes that Hampton’s 21-day practice window may be opening after that break.

“Jim Harbaugh said he does not expect Omarion Hampton’s activation window to be opened until after the Week 12 bye,” Popper said.

This can be taken as a positive sign, as this would be a solid way to show that Hampton is nearing recovery. It should still be noted, however, that him being activated and returning to practice would mean that he is already 100%, as he would still have to pass some assessments in order to actually play again.

Should he be activated ahead of the Week 13 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, the team is expected to have Hampton practice, and if he is still hurt, he would probably be listed as “Out.” If he does well and looks healthy, he even be allowed to play and even start.

However, it should be noted that despite what reports are saying, there is still a chance that Hampton might not even be cleared to even be reactivated for Week 13.
