“Can Barely Pay for His Apartment”: Fans React as NFL Makes Example of Puka Nacua With $25K Fine After Ref Comments

One live stream with Adin Ross has landed Puka Nacua in a lot of trouble. During the stream, the Rams’ wide receiver had criticized the refs, claiming that they make intentionally incorrect calls so they could be on TV.

Nacua was blunt in his assessment of the NFL refs, calling them “the worst.” After the Rams lost against the Seahawks in overtime, Nacua doubled down on his take and sarcastically thanked the refs for their “contribution.”

On the stream, he had said:

“The refs are the worst,” Nacua said. “These guys are lawyers. They want to be on TV, too. You don’t think he’s texting his friends in the group chat like, ‘Yo, you guys just saw me on Sunday Night Football? That wasn’t PI, but I called it.’ I mean, these guys are normal human beings, too.”

All of this led to the 24-year-old being slapped with a $25k fine by the league for criticizing its officials. After the news went public, fans made some hilarious comments on the internet.

“Bro can barely pay for his apartment rn get him the contract already,” a fan wrote.

“that’s too much for Puka on his rookie contract,” a fan wrote.

“When are we going to stop tolerating this no fun league?” a fan wrote.

“Bro coulda bought his brother a car,” a fan wrote.

“but won’t fine these cheating a** refs,” a fan wrote.

“NFL just robbing this young man this week,” a fan wrote.

This wasn’t the only controversy Nacua was involved in yesterday. He was also called out by a congressman over his gesture during the live stream, which was deemed antisemitic.

Congressman Demanded an Apology from Puka Nacua

During the live stream, Nacua was asked to imitate a celebratory move by Adin Ross, who is Jewish. The celebratory gesture included rubbing hands together in a pose that is often used in antisemitic rhetoric.

Ross, after teaching Nacua how to do it, asked him to celebrate the same way after he scored his next touchdown. Congressman Eric Swalwell called out the Rams star on social media over the “antisemitic touchdown dance.”

Swalwell stated that Nacua must apologize or be dropped by the Rams. The wide receiver later took to Instagram to issue an apology. He claimed that he didn’t know the meaning behind the moves Ross was telling him to do.

The NFL also released a statement amid the uproar, reiterating its strong stance against any form of discrimination against an individual or a group of people. Nacua went on to have two touchdowns in the Seattle game.
