Just a couple of weeks ago, Baker Mayfield’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the New Orleans Saints 29-28, further dropping in the playoff standings. On Saturday, the Bucs won their second straight game, defeating the Carolina Panthers 16-14 to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The Bucs’ playoff hopes will rely on the results of Sunday’s game after they prevented the Panthers from slotting into the NFC’s last postseason berth. The Bucs will be rooting for the Saints in their game against the Atlanta Falcons after finishing atop the conference with an identical 8-9 record with the Panthers. However, if the Falcons end up winning Sunday, the Bucs won’t go into the playoffs.
This is why Mayfield said he will be a Saints fan on Sunday.
“I am [a Saints fan] tomorrow,” Mayfield said.
The Saints’ official X account reposted this comment and added a cheeky jibe:
“How the turns have tabled.”
The Saints were indirectly referencing that how once Mayfield showed his distaste for the franchise in the past.

Baker Mayfield and the Bucs’ Playoff Picture Hangs in Balance Over Sunday’s Saints Game
Despite what has been a torrid season, the Bucs still stand a chance to win the incredibly weak NFC South division. The only way that could happen is if the Saints manage to beat the Falcons in Sunday’s final regular-season game.
After the latest 16-14 win over the Panthers, Mayfield said:
“You know, I think the defense did an incredible job all game. They got a touchdown early off my interception, so we just found a way to win right there. It was a tough divisional opponent, and we did everything we could today. Sit back and see what happens tomorrow.
“Just stay in it one play at a time, you know. Some of these plays aren’t going to be pretty, we’re going to make it work. Linemen, stay blocking, stay around the line of scrimmage, guys. Keep getting open in the scramble drill and see what happens.”
Mayfield, who completed 16-of-22 attempted passes for 203 yards and one touchdown, will now sit back on the couch watching the Saints game.
