In a battle between two struggling teams, both the Washington Commanders and the Miami Dolphins are aiming to get a better standing this season. A win for the Dolphins would mean that the calls to fire head coach Mike McDaniel would quiet down for at least a week, but it would intensify should they lose.
Now, Mike McDaniel may currently be struggling as a coach, but he is very open about having once had a drinking problem. This topic actually came up during the game, as the announcers pointed it out during the broadcast, around the middle of the game. However, not many fans were happy with the announcers airing the Dolphins coach’s past on live TV.
“No reason to bring up Mike McDaniel past drinking problem on the broadcast completely unnecessary,” one fan pointed out.

“Why the hell are the commentators talking about Mike McDaniel being an alcoholic?😭😭” another X user asked.
“Lmfaooo talkin bout Mike Mcdaniel being an alcoholic 😂😂😂😂” reacted one person.
“Why is the NFL telling us the dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel used to have a drinking problem unprovoked???,” another fan wondered.
“Mike McDaniel has a drinking problem they just said on the broadcast. What’s wild is he’s made every dolphin fan nearly have one as well.” another person said.
“NFL Network play-by-play guys talking about Mike McDaniel’s drinking problem in the middle of the game… Are we serious right now?” one person noted.
While Mike McDaniel has not had a winning record with the Dolphins so far, fans had his back as soon as the game’s broadcasters aired out his dirty laundry regarding his drinking problems. For now, McDaniel has been sober and is fighting to stay that way.
Mike McDaniel Credits Washington Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn For Sobriety
This week’s game against the Washington Commanders might be a special one for Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. This is because, during one of the lowest points in his life, it was Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn who helped McDaniel out on his road to sobriety.
“Dan Quinn holds a special place in my heart and my career,” McDaniel said ahead of the game against the Commanders. “I think he was there at ground zero when I became sober and supported me and gave me the opportunity to continue what I love to do. So for that, I’ll be forever indebted to him.”
When they were still part of the Atlanta Falcons coaching staff, Quinn, Kyle Shanahan and Raheem Morris all staged an intervention for McDaniel, telling him that they believed he had been drinking too much. Since then, he had been battling to be sober, and they helped McDaniel realign his life. Now, he is not an assistant coach anymore, but a head coach of an NFL team, and that in itself is an achievement.
