Micah Parsons Reacts To James Franklin’s Firing With Heartfelt Note For Former Penn State HC: “Doesn’t Feel Right”

Penn State alum and Green Bay Packers star Micah Parsons was sad after hearing that the Penn State Nittany Lions have fired their head coach James Franklin after the program suffered their third consecutive loss of the season against Northwestern.

Parsons took to X and shared his reaction to the development. He wrote:

“Regardless of the situation at hand, this one doesn’t feel right to me! Coach deserved better! My self and countless others wouldn’t be where we are today without Coach! Thank you. #Weareforever!”

Franklin started the season 3-0 and was also the No. 2 ranked team in preseason rankings. However, this unbeaten start was followed by losses against Oregon and UCLA before the 22-21 loss came last week against the Northwestern Wildcats.

With this, Franklin finishes with a Penn State record of 104-45. Under his contract signed in 2021, Franklin was owed more than $48 million in buyout.

After Franklin’s firing, Penn State has announced that Terry Smith will be the head coach in the interim. The Nittany Lions will soon find a replacement as they would still want to win six games and become bowl eligible.

Micah Parsons’s Penn State Career Under James Franklin

Before being 12th overall in 2021, Micah Parsons enjoyed his three years playing under the Nittany Lions. A defensive end in high school, Franklin converted him to linebacker at Penn State. Despite being a freshman, he led the team in tackles (82) while starting only one time in 13 games.

Parsons was named Big Ten Linebacker of the Year in 2019 and a Consensus All-American. That same season, he was the Cotton Bowl defensive MVP. In that game, he had 14 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Parsons opted out of the 2020 season due to Covid-19. He declared for the draft and the Cowboys picked him in the first round.

As for the pass-rusher himself, Parsons was in the middle of tough negotiations with the Cowboys. After Jerry Jones made him wait too long for a new contract, he asked for a trade and was subsequently dealt to the Packers, who signed him to a record four-year, $188 million contract. He become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
