Luke McCaffrey Injury Update: Commanders’ Woes Continue As Christian McCaffrey’s Brother Joins Jayden Daniels On Injured Reserve

The Washington Commanders dealt two heavy injury blows last week with Jayden Daniels and Luke McCaffrey both likely hitting the injured reserve list.

The brother of San Francisco 49ers’ running back Christian McCaffrey was injured on the opening weekoff in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. He exited the game early and was diagnosed with a fractured collarbone. NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared the development on X:

“Bad to worse: #Commanders WR and returner Luke McCaffrey broke his collarbone last night, per The Insiders, and is headed to Injured Reserve. Another blow on a bad night in Washington. It was the first play of the game, and now likely misses the season.”

He is expected to entered the injured reserve list, meaning he would be out for atleast four games.

Luke McCaffrey will join his quarterback Jayden Daniels on the Commanders injured reserve.

Jayden Daniels’ Injury Receives Season Ending Update By Physician

After the Commanders lost their receiver Luke McCaffrey early in the game, they suffered another injury blow. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels sustained a left elbow dislocation after he landed awkwardly on the ground after the sack. Daniels walked off the field without help before eventually being ruled out for the game.

In the wake of this injury, medical expert Jesse Morse suggested that we might have seen the last of Daniels in the 2025 season.

“Elbow bends the wrong way,” he said. “You can see them putting on an air cast. This is season-ending barring something miraculous. Shame.”

“One, the elbow is not supposed to move in that capacity. It’s kind of similar to a knee, unlike say a shoulder. So therefore it doesn’t move in all these crazy patterns,” he said in the video.

“And if you were to try to do that, some people get lucky in their double joints and they can do that or do something similar to that, but most people can’t. And in order to be able to have the elbow move that far, one of two things has to happen. Either you tear the ligaments that are responsible for keeping the elbow in the socket, the bones where they belong, or you fracture the bone and it basically pops to wherever the energy is going to.”

For now, Daniels is supposed to get an MRI done to further evaluate his injury.
