The New York Giants are gearing to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football and fans want to know whether rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is available to play.
The rookie suffered a concussion in Week 10 and missed last week’s game. The Giants’ interim head coach addressed the questions surrounding his availability for the game against the Lions.
Jaxson Dart Injury Update
Jaxson Dart suffered a concussion in the second half against the Chicago Bears and he has been in the NFL’s concussion protocol. Dart was tackled, fumbled the ball, and when he hit the ground, his helmet came off.
Dart continued, but when something felt off about him on the field, he was called back by the Giants. At the time, Giants head coach Brian Daboll talked about the injury after the game.
“Yeah, it’s unfortunate,” Daboll said, via ESPN. “Unfortunately, he got hurt… So, with Dart, it was going back out on the field, just didn’t seem right. So, called the trainers over and said, ‘Let’s get him out and make sure he gets looked at.’ So, he went in and got looked at, evaluated for concussion.”
He was evaluated at the sidelines before being taken to the locker room. When asked exactly on which play the head injury might have happened, Daboll had no clue.
“Yeah, look, I’m not sure exactly the play that it happened,” Daboll said. “I’m just concerned for the kid.”
More concerning is the fact that it was his fourth concussion check this season (including preseason).
On Wednesday, he was termed as a non-contact participant. The team’s official injury report states Dart’s availability as limited.
Will Jaxson Dart Play This Week?
On Wednesday, Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka made it clear that Jaxson Dart will likely play, assuming there will be no setbacks the rest of the week.
“If he’s healthy and cleared to go [by medical staff], then I’d like Jackson Dart to play,’’ Kafka said before practice. “It’s only if he’s healthy and ready to go, and that’s based on what the doctor would say.’’
It remains to be seen if Dart makes his return to the field this week.
