What Happened to Gardner Minshew? Latest Injury Update on Chiefs QB in Week 16 vs. Titans

The Kansas City Chiefs are playing the Tennessee Titans today. Adding insult to injury, the already struggling team lost its quarterback, Gardner Minshew, in the first half. The Chiefs have failed to stay healthy and consistent throughout the season.

Their season has become progressively worse, and if they thought that not making the playoffs was the last of their misery, they seem to have another thing coming.

After Patrick Mahomes’ injury, which ended his season, Minshew was brought up as the starter for the franchise. With nothing left to gain in the last stretch of the season, the Chiefs would’ve hoped to at least end the season on a high note.

In the first half of the Titans game, Minshew sustained a knee injury. Soon, he was said to be questionable to return to the field. Moments later, it was announced that Minshew had been ruled out for the rest of the game.

Veteran backup Chris Oladokun stepped up to replace Minshew on the field. In addition to the injury struggles, the Chiefs are also struggling to compete against the home team. At halftime, they were trailing 6-9.

In the third quarter, the Titans widened the gap, and with six minutes left in the third quarter, they are leading 16-6. This isn’t even the biggest worry for the Chiefs right now. They have a bigger threat ahead.

What would happen if Oladokun, the third-string QB, ends up getting injured? They have run out of options, and the last thing that the most dominant franchise of the past decade would like to see is him getting injured.

Chances are that in the possible scenario, Travis Kelce might take up the role of a quarterback. But let’s just hope things don’t go further downhill from here.

    The Chiefs’ Dynasty is Over

The downfall of the Kansas City Chiefs is one of the biggest things to have happened this season in football. No one would’ve thought that the team that has dominated the league in recent years wouldn’t even make it to the playoffs.

This is the first time since 2014 that the Chiefs will not be a part of the NFL playoffs. The inconsistencies right from the beginning, ups and downs, injuries, and losing their biggest player have made this a forgettable season for the Chiefs.

Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL during the game against the Chargers. He underwent surgery last Monday and is now recovering. The timeline for these injuries is typically nine months, which means Mahomes can potentially be ready for the 2026 season.
