Former NBA Champ Questions Steelers Decision To Trade George Pickens Following Stellar Outing vs Chiefs

The Pittsburgh Steelers turned heads when they traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-rounder. The trade that happened in May continues to drive discussion on the internet.

On Thursday, former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins called out the Steelers for letting Pickens go following his stellar performance on Thanksgiving Day against the Kansas City Chiefs.

In the Cowboys’ 31-28 win, Pickens caught six passes for 88 yards, including a long haul of 39 yards. With the help of CeeDee Lamb (seven receptions for 112 yards) and Dak Prescott (27-39 passes for 320 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Following this incredible performance and Pickens’ consistency this season, Perkins wrote:

“Mf Pickens cold!!! The Steelers crazy for letting him go”

This will be a common sentiment shared by many fans seeing Pickens doing very well for himself in the NFL.

What George Pickens Said After Cowboys-Steelers Trade

George Pickens clarified that it was not his call to get traded. On joining the Cowboys, he expressed optimism and excitement:

“Oh, it excites me a lot,” Pickens said via NFL Network. “In the game of football, we can work off each other. There’s no, ‘Oh, he gets the ball, I get the ball’ — we’re working off each other. That’s why I always come back to, you know, building a winning culture and that’s kind of what we’ve been talking about in Dallas.”

Meanwhile, Pickens carried a neutral tone on what he felt after knowing the Steelers traded him.

“It was a good for me,” Pickens said. “Just strictly because you know when you’re somewhere long and you build a certain record, a certain label, whether that’s good, great, or bad, you just want a fresh start. That’s how I feel like it is with a lot of people in life.”

Pickens also acknowledged the learnings he will carry with him while reflecting on his time with Pittsburgh.

“I was still a kid. I made some mistakes. I’ll own that. I let my emotions get the best of me a few times, because I’m always riding that line,” Pickens said on The Players’ Tribune. “That’s just who I am. I’ve tried to learn from it and grow while still being ME.”

Every time Pickens performs, it will be a reminder to Steelers fans of whom they traded.
