NFL Fans Accuse Dolphins Of Tanking As Questionable Coaching Decision Backfires vs Washington

The Miami Dolphins, following their nail-biting 16-13 overtime victory against the Washington Commanders, got the fans questioning one of their plays that almost saw the Miami-based side potentially lose the game against the Commanders.

With 1:44 remaining on the clock, Miami faced a critical fourth down. Instead of opting to kick the field goal and take the three-point lead, the Dolphins opted to go for it on fourth down, which resulted in the Commanders getting a field goal.

This questionable coaching decision saw a lot of fans on X accusing the Dolphins of deliberately tanking the game.

“The Dolphins tanking is so obvious”, stated a fan.

“NFL has to investigate the Dolphins right ? It’s kinda clear they are tanking right ?”, pointed out a fan.

“Dolphins tanking in style”, said a fan.

“If the Dolphins bring back McDaniels next year, the league will need to open an investigation of tanking again. I dont watch many Dolphins games but this redzone offense playcalling is tough to watch a lot of motion but no power”, elaborately accused a fan.

“The dolphins are unethically tanking im actually disgusted”, commented a fan.

“Dolphins have to be tanking on purpose at this point othewise this entire game makes no sense”, stated another fan.

“So the Dolphins didn’t kick the field goal there??? Mike McDaniel ain’t fooling nobody. Them boys tanking lol”, remarked a fan.

Luckily for the Dolphins, Commanders kicker Matt Gay’s 56-yard attempt with just 10 seconds sailed wide right, with the game eventually heading into overtime.

Under the NFL’s updated overtime rules, both teams were guaranteed a possession unless the kicking team scored a safety. The 10-minute overtime period gives each squad two timeouts, with all reviews initiated.

Washington won the coin toss and elected to receive, giving their backup quarterback, Marcus Mariota, a chance to lead. Mariota, who earlier in the game was sidelined for a while following an injury, was filling in for injured starter Jayden Daniels throughout the game.

However, his first pass attempt in overtime was intercepted by Miami defensive back Jack Jones, giving the Dolphins possession, which eventually resulted in the Dolphins securing a 16-13 win.
