The Dallas Cowboys picked up one of their most important victories of the season with a 31–28 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving. The result pushed them to 6–5–1, gave them a third straight win, and revived their playoff hopes after weeks of uncertainty.
This was a difficult matchup for the Cowboys, and leading up to the game, the odds were in favor of the Chiefs. They not only manage to beat the odds and secure a win but also put up a clinical performance against the most dominant team in recent years.
The win immediately shifted their place in the NFC picture. With the conference crowded and several teams stuck around the same record range, Dallas moved back into realistic contention for a wild-card spot.
This was not a one-sided game. Kansas City battled all night, but Dallas executed cleaner football when it mattered. The Cowboys controlled time of possession, gained 457 total yards to Kansas City’s 362, and converted key drives that kept Patrick Mahomes off the field.
That formula gave Dallas the balance they needed to keep their season alive. However, the long game isn’t in their reach yet. The Cowboys are far from securing a playoff berth, but the win must’ve boosted the team’s morale for a difficult stretch ahead.
Despite this win clearing their path for now, Dallas still has a lot of work to do. They must stay above .500, avoid backward steps, and continue leaning on a passing game that is finally showing consistency.
A playoff berth is not guaranteed, but with momentum on their side, their shot at returning to the postseason is very much alive. And they have a better chance than the Chiefs of making the cut.
What Worked for the Cowboys Against the Chiefs?
Dallas beat Kansas City because their best players took control of the game. Dak Prescott delivered a strong and steady performance with 320 passing yards and two touchdowns, avoiding negative plays and keeping the Cowboys’ offense on schedule.
CeeDee Lamb powered the receiving corps with seven catches for 112 yards and a touchdown. His impact stretched the Chiefs’ coverage and opened room for the rest of the offense.
Malik Davis added the biggest run of the night, a 43-yard touchdown burst that shifted momentum before halftime and gave Dallas the cushion they needed. The Cowboys won the physical battle, too. Their offensive line kept Prescott clean, allowing zero sacks, while the defensive front pressured Mahomes enough to stall key drives.
The win didn’t just keep Dallas in the playoff race. It showed they can outplay a Super Bowl contender when their offense and defense sync up. If they can replicate this level across the final stretch, the Cowboys will give themselves a real chance at a postseason return.
