Not too long ago, there was an active debate on whether Patrick Mahomes has surpassed Tom Brady as the greatest quarterback ever. Mahomes’ Super Bowl wins with the Chiefs were helping strengthen his case.
Now that the Chiefs are eliminated from playoff contention this year, marking the end of the Chiefs’ dynasty under Mahomes, Colin Cowherd has sparked a new debate. Josh Allen has been better than Mahomes in the last two years, Cowherd claims.
Cowherd isn’t stranger to making tall claims. Fans remember his “Hey, LeBron, we’re good bro,” comment when he was highly impressed by Ben Simmons. This isn’t a similar situation because Allen is one of the best players in the league.
He believes that in the last two years, Allen has separated himself from Mahomes and now sits in a league of his own. As per Cowherd, Allen is just better than the three-time Super Bowl Champion.
“The last two years, Mahomes is not even in Josh Allen’s league. It ain’t close,” Cowherd said. “Josh is bigger and stronger, and by the way, Mahomes has better receiving targets. The Bills’ receivers stink. They play in worse weather, believe it or not, in Kansas City.”

This is a popular narrative in favor of Allen that he is stuck with a team that’s keeping him from realizing his full potential. His 2024 MVP season was undeniably great, and many believe that if he had the right help, he could’ve converted that momentum into a Super Bowl win.
As per Cowherd, the problem is at every level, right from the coaching staff to the system that Allen plays in. But despite the limitations, he has established himself as the best player in the league.
Patrick Mahomes Has Started Rehab
Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL during the game against the Chargers, which the Chiefs lost and were eliminated from the playoff race. Those injuries are often tricky because they can derail someone’s entire career.
The Chiefs quarterback recently underwent surgery to repair two torn ligaments in his left knee. Now the rehab process starts, and considering the timeline, a possible Week 1 return is on the cards.
“Every player is different. Every sport is different. Every position is different,” Rick Burkholder SAID. “[Mahomes] is so in tune to what he does, he does it a little quicker. Ballpark on this is nine months, but it could be a month or two more, a month or two less.”
The ideal recovery time for such injuries is nine months. So, Mahomes’ road to recovery seems to fit the timeline perfectly.
