Chris Godwin Injury Update: What Fantasy Owners Need To Know About Buccaneers WR Ahead Of Week 6

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may be without wide receiver Chris Godwin for this week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. The game is on Sunday and will be played at Raymond James Stadium.

Godwin is reportedly dealing with a fibula injury. He missed both practices and was always considered doubtful for the game. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Godwin is not expected to suit up for Sunday’s game.

    What Happened To Chris Godwin?

The exact nature of Chris Godwin’s injury is unknown at the moment. However, Godwin sustained a dislocated ankle injury in Week 7 of last season. In the offseason, Godwin underwent two surgeries. The current fibula issue could be related to complications from that previous injury.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles mentioned earlier in the week that Godwin was “likely just sore” after playing in his first two games after an 11-month absence.

This comes after Godwin played the entirety of last Sunday’s 38-35 win over the Seattle Seahawks but was seen limping on the field late in the game.

Is Chris Godwin Playing Week 6?

No, Godwin is not expected to play in Week 6. This season he played in two games, catching six receptions for 52 yards. His longest catch was a 13-yard reception.

After making his return after 11 months, Godwin expressed gratitude, saying:

“There were a ton of emotions going through my head. Most of them were just gratitude. Just excited to be out there. There’s a level of energy that comes with playing in an NFL game and I missed that.”

“Just to be able to have the opportunity to continue to represent him and my family name is so special to me and something I don’t take for granted,” Godwin added.

    Chris Godwin Fantasy Outlook

Amid the report from Fowler, fantasy managers should start preparing for Godwin’s absence. Rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka should enjoy more receptions alongside veteran Sterling Shepard.

Egbuka leads the team with 445 receiving yards and five touchdowns; therefore fantasy managers should consider starting Egbuka if they have him. Tight end Cade Otton had four receptions for 81 yards against the Seahawks in the last game. As such, he could see an increased workload as well.
