Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard has been ruled questionable for Week 7 as the team takes on the struggling New York Jets, which have yet to win a single game. This means that the team is waiting to see if he would be healthy enough to play in that game. If he is not, however, the question now is, who will be playing in his stead?
Before his injury, Hubbard already had 217 rushing yards on 53 carries, with 94 receiving yards on 13 receptions, leading to two touchdowns. He will be tough to replace, especially as he is still dealing with that calf injury, which has been deemed minor.
Who Will Play If Dave Canales Opts To Sit Out Chuba Hubbard Again?
RB2 – Rico Dowdle
With Hubbard gone, RB2 Rico Dowdle has been very prolific and has been carrying the position quite well. He has been so good that there have been talks of benching Hubbard in favor of Dowdle, as well as rumors of the Panthers trading Hubbard so that the RB1 spot would be given to Dowdle already.
He has already scored two rushing touchdown, something Hubbard has yet to do, annd has rushed for 472 yards on 81 carries. He also has 104 receiving yards on 12 receptions and this led to one receiving touchdown. This makes Dowdle look more efficient than the RB1 as of the moment, with some fans wanting him to be the permanent RB1.
ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler has noted that it is very much possible that Carolina will try and keep both players and do a rotation in games where Hubbard plays and games where Dowdle plays. For now, the Panthers are not worried out who will be their running back with Hubbard injured, as Dowdle has shown what he could do.
RB3 – Trevor Etienne
For the last three games, Trevor Etienne has been backing up Rico Dowdle while Chuba Hubbard continued to rest his injured calf. The third stringer has played three games so far this season, with a total of 76 rushing yards on 15 carries. He also has nine passing yards on two receptions. He has yet to score any touchdown as a backup running back.
RB4 – Deejay Dallas
As the fourth-string quarterback, Deejay Dallas is not expected to see much action, with him only playing two games so far this season, including that win against the Dallas Cowboys where he had one carry for zero yards. Should Hubbard return, he is expected to go back to being inactive.
