The Buffalo Bills’ 28-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs last week came with a slight setback. James Cook missed Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury he picked up during the game. Here is everything you need to know about the Bills’ RBs.
James Cook’s Availability
On Thursday, Cook was back in practice for the Bills. It appears that he should be able to play on Sunday after having missed Wednesday’s practice. The Bills take on the Miami Dolphins in Week 10 in what should be an easy win for them. Having one of the best rushers in the backfield would certainly help Josh Allen and company, although they likely won’t need him.
The Bills have been playing down the injury. Coach Sean McDermott did not give an update on Cook, according to USA Today’s Jacob Camenker. Cook has been a big part of the Bills’ offensive success. He is leading the NFL in rushing yards per game, with 108.4.
Bills’ Depth Chart
The Bills have two options if James Cook can’t play on Sunday: Ty Johnson and Ray Davis. Johnson has gotten more snaps than Davis this year as the pass-catching back for the Bills. He has the experience to step up, but surprisingly, he isn’t the backup on the Bills’ depth chart.
Davis should take the primary running role if Cook can’t play. He was picked in the second round of the 2024 Draft and hasn’t seen the field much. Still, Davis could be a reliable replacement. Johnson and Davis should be plenty for the Bills to get through Miami.
Bottom Line
The Bills are playing the Dolphins in Week 10. An RB1 injury shouldn’t stop them from getting a win and moving on. McDermott could even choose to rest Cook if he isn’t 100%. For now, Cook practiced on Thursday. Therefore, he should be able to play on Sunday. If he doesn’t, Johnson and Davis should be reliable options for the Bills and any fantasy owners who need a running back.
