Brian Thomas Jr. Injury Update: What Fantasy Owners Need to Know About Jaguars WR Ahead of Week 9

After some trade rumors regarding Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. were just squashed, the talk has now shifted back to his injury status. He played hurt in Week 7 and exited the game against the Rams during the third quarter, before coming back in the fourth, with their Week 8 bye giving him more time to heal up. So, will he be able to play for Week 9?

The Jags are taking on the struggling Las Vegas Raiders for Week 9, and the team just simply has one of the worst pass defenses in the league right now, which means this is a game where Thomas, who has been quiet so far in the season, might finally break out of his funk and finally be the player fans have been hoping he would be. Is he healthy enough though?

What Happened to Brian Thomas Jr.?

Thomas was seen favoring his shoulder during the third quarter, against the Rams on Week 7, eventually getting benched to see what was wrong with him. However, that apparent shoulder injury was deemed not serious enough, so he was allowed to get back in the fourth quarter.

Given that he played in the fourth, it assured many that he was not that hurt in his shoulder and was healthy enough to play.

Will Brian Thomas Jr. Play Week 9?

With Thomas even coming back amid an apparent shoulder injury, it is expected that he will indeed play in Week 9, especially with Thomas getting to rest that shoulder up for a week with their Week 8 bye. The Jaguars will want one of their best wide receivers against one of the worst passing defenses in the Raiders too.

That being said, NFL teams often approach injuries cautiously, so it should be noted that fans should not be surprised if they announce that Thomas would not be playing against the Raiders, though this should be quite unlikely given that he was healthy enough to return after getting hurt.

    Brian Thomas Jr. Fantasy Outlook

The outlook is looking good for Brian Thomas Jr., especially as the team is looking optimistic that he might play. However, Fantasy managers should still be cautious and be ready to sit him just in case the unexpected happens.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Troy Franklin might be a good pickup should Thomas not play against the Raiders, especially as his chemistry with quarterback Bo Nix has been on point.
