Irvin Shares the Emotional Toll of Caring for His Wife With Alzheimer’s

Irvin has recently been open about the challenges as the primary caregiver for his wife, Sandy, who suffers from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. The Hall of Fame receiver, during a recent appearance on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, spoke candidly about the emotional toll of providing round-the-clock care for his college sweetheart.

“It’s quite hard to take care of someone 24 hours a day. I have to keep a 24-hour nurse with her all the time,” Irvin stated.

Irvin also revealed how the warning signs began appearing roughly a decade ago, and the diagnosis was confirmed only after a year.

He further emphasized that despite all the challenges faced by him, his wife deserves every bit of care during this tough phase.

“But she, if anybody, has earned the right to be in her home.No matter what, she will be in her home”, Irvin further elaborated.

The couple, who initially met in college, eventually got married in 1990 and have been together ever since.
