“When You Give Up 48 Points, Sh*t Happens”: Insider Reveals Alleged Reason Behind Steve Wilks’ Firing After 28-Point Loss

The New York Jets’ abysmal 2025 campaign saw them lose once again against the Jacksonville Jaguars 48-20 in week 14 of the NFL. This result was a nail in the coffin for Steve Wilks, as he was dismissed as the Jets’ defensive coordinator by head coach Aaron Glenn.

A recent development, as reported by NFL insider Josina Anderson, has given some context behind Glenn’s supposed reasoning for firing Steve Wilks.

Anderson reported how a league source revealed the exact reason behind Wilks’ firing was related to how the Jets gave away 48 points against the Jaguars.

“When you give up 48 points that easy, sh*t happens” the league source stated as reported by Anderson.

The source also acknowledged how a lot of other factors related to the availability of players affect the New York-based franchise’s game, while feeling bad for Steve Wilks.

“I hate that for Steve Wilks because he’s a good dude; but between you and I our linebacker play has gotten worse, you lose Quinnen Williams you lose the element of inside pash rush. You have an undrafted rookie QB in there” the source further explained.

The source also emphasized how Steve’s firing is not all his fault, whilst also highlighting how he was a former head coach and defensive coordinator for the 49ers in the Super Bowl just a while back, and things like this just happen.

Aaron Glenn Announces Chris Harris As Jets’ New Defensive Coordinator

With head coach Aaron Glenn dismissing their Steve Wilks as the Jets’ defensive coordinator, defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator Chris Harris will now reportedly fill in Wilks’ shoes as interim defensive coordinator for the Jets.

Steve Wilks was in his first season as Jets defensive coordinator before he was let go by the New York Jets, with previous stints as 49ers defensive coordinator in 2023 and earlier head‑coaching and interim roles with the Cardinals and Panthers.
