Former Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison may be getting more salt to the wound of his recent dismissal from his NBA franchise. On Tuesday, Nov. 11, the Mavericks announced that they have fired Harrison after a series of controversial moves in 2025. In fact, one of his big decisions may have changed the trajectory of the Dallas-based squad.
Amid reports of rising internal issues that eventually led to Harrison’s firing, @bleacherreport on Instagram has reported that, according to writers Joe Vardon, Christian Clark, and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the 52-year-old was trying to rush star forward Anthony Davis to come back from injury. Harrison allegedly did this even after the Mavericks’ medical staff warned him of a potentially worse injury for his player.
“Anthony Davis tried to convince the Mavs to let him play and former GM Nico Harrison urged him to return but the team medical staff cited ‘the potential for a torn Achilles’ if AD returned too soon 👀 (via The Athletic’s Joe Vardon, Christian Clark, Sam Amick),” @bleacherreport on Instagram captioned with an emoji.

Davis, who is a superstar in the league but is often out with injuries, is nursing a strain on his left calf that has made him miss the last seven games for coach Jason Kidd’s Mavericks. It has been reported that if Davis were to be rushed back to his playing duties, he might be at risk of a torn Achilles heel, a season-ending one. Harrison’s negligence towards this may have played a factor in his firing.
The timetable for Davis’ return now falls into the hands of Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont, who has asserted that the 10-time All-Star will return to the court only when team doctors deem him fit. Dallas is set to take on coach Ty Lue’s Los Angeles Clippers on Friday, Nov. 14, in their home arena, with Davis being listed as doubtful to play so far.

Dallas Mavericks Are No. 14 Seed In The Western Conference
As it stands, the Dallas Mavericks possess a lowly record of 3-9, which ranks them as the No. 14 seed in the Western Conference in the 2025-26 season.
The Mavericks are coming off a nine-point loss, 123-114, at the hands of the Phoenix Suns. Perhaps, Harrison’s firing can administer a fresh start for the Dallas-based franchise who lost its signature superstar, Anthony Davis, nine months ago due to his decision.
