New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson is injured ahead of the team’s primetime showdown against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday. Brunson turned his right ankle for the second time this season on Wednesday in the first quarter against the Sacramento Kings. He lost his balance while trying to get past Maxime Raynaud on the perimeter, resulting in the injury.
Brunson left the game limping and was questionable to return in the first half. Shortly after the third quarter began, the Knicks ruled out their captain for the remainder of the game. Fortunately for New York, Brunson didn’t leave the building on crutches or a walking boot.
The Knicks have ruled him out for the Warriors game. The quick turnaround made it unlikely for Jalen Brunson to play on Thursday, given that he’s hurt the same ankle twice. Brunson played only five minutes on Wednesday, scoring four points on two field goals.
Jalen Brunson Stats vs. Warriors
Jalen Brunson has played 18 games against the Warriors, averaging 14.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists, shooting 47.3% from the field, including 40.6% from 3-point range. Most of that production has been below Brunson’s standards, but he’s played the majority of his games against the Warriors as a Maverick, when he was a backup point guard.
On Thursday, if Brunson sits, the Knicks will sorely miss his production. He’s averaging 28.2 ppg, 3.2 rpg and 6.1 apg in 37 games, shooting 48.1% from the field, including 38.8% from 3-point range.
