Donovan Mitchell and James Harden’s team-up in Cleveland has created all sorts of storylines. Heading that list is whether Harden could help Mitchell carry the Cavaliers to the championship after back-to-back playoff disappointments.
On Friday, an X account that often trolls NBA players tweeted a made-up angle of the trade. After the Cavaliers announced the Harden trade, Mitchell supposedly told his fiancee, Coco Jones, this:
“We have Harden now. I’ll bring the championship back to Cleveland. After that, I’ll marry you.”
In mid-July last year, Donovan Mitchell and the R&B artist announced their engagement on Instagram. The post included a short clip of the now seven-time All-Star going down on one knee to ask the “ICU” hitmaker to marry him. After reportedly dating for two years, the two are already deep in their plans for their wedding.
The date and location of the wedding have not been announced. While those remain uncertain, Coco Jones told People during the Grammy Awards early this month that the festivities had to be “intimate.”
Jones’ red carpet comment quickly went viral. While Mitchell has kept his focus on basketball, it didn’t take long for some to troll him when the Cavaliers announced the James Harden trade.
Fan trolls James Harden after Donovan Mitchell led Cavaliers to 124-91 rout of LA Clippers
The fan who trolled Donovan Mitchell also took a shot at James Harden on Thursday. Harden was on the inactive list when the Cleveland Cavaliers played the LA Clippers, the first meeting between the two teams after the blockbuster trade. Both Harden and Darius Garland, whom the Clippers received for the former MVP, sat out the game.
@Hoopss could resist another hilarious tweet after the Cavaliers blew away the Clippers 124-91:
“James Harden ERUPTED for 45 points, 18 assists & 15 rebounds in his debut win against his former team, the Clippers, as the Cavs dominated 124-91 all on NBA 2K.”
Without Harden, Mitchell filled up the stat sheet with 29 points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals. Jarrett Allen and Jaylon Tyson combined for 27 points, 15 rebounds and four assists to help Mitchell carry the team.
Harden’s former teammate, Kawhi Leonard, put up 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal in the Clippers’ loss.
