The Michigan Wolverines finds itself navigating a not-so-ideal situation after their head coach Sherrone Moore was dismissed on December 10.
Since then, rumors have swirled around the Wolverines’ athletic director Warde Manuel’s future with the program, with a lot of chatter suggesting how he might be next out the door.
However, reports from CFB insider Ross Dellenger confirm that Manuel will continue as Michigan’s athletic director as the Wolverines continue searching for the program’s next head coach.
The Michigan-based side have reportedly come to this decision after university officials and board members held a conference call earlier today to discuss the situation with Manuel retaining his position despite the mounting pressure and scrutiny surrounding the program.
Despite contrary reports, Warde Manuel remains the Michigan athletic director as the school begins a search for its next coach, per @RossDellenger.

Moore’s firing came after a university investigation uncovered a supposed inappropriate relationship with a staff member. The 39-year-old coach was later detained by police in Saline, Michigan, following an alleged assault incident.
Meanwhile, one name that keeps popping up in this entire debacle is Paige Shiver, a staff member in Michigan’s athletic department. However, Shiver’s involvement continues to just be a rumor, as the university or the investigating officials have not publicly confirmed who was involved in the situation that led to Moore’s firing.
Moore’s termination saw his tenure last just two seasons, posting an overall 17-8 record.

Warde Manuel’s Contract Runs Through June 2030
After inking a contract with the Wolverines back in December 2024, Warde Manuel is set to stay with the program through June 2030.
Manuel is currently one of the highest-earning athletic directors in college football, as his contract includes a $2.4 million compensation per year, which also includes deferred bonuses.

Manuel made the announcement about Moore’s dismissal, citing credible evidence following a university investigation. With the transfer portal set to open on January 2, 2026, Manuel will have to look for a head coach to replace Moore, failing which the program could risk losing key players ahead of the new season.
