Mike Bibby has been appointed head coach of the Sacramento State Hornets men’s basketball team. Bibby is set to replace interim head coach Michael Czepil, under whom the Hornets went 7-25 this season.
Bibby has experience as a high school head coach, spending six years at Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, but he has never coached at the college level. He led Shadow Mountain to five Arizona state championship titles, including four straight in that span. However, his tenure ended on a sour note, as he was relieved of his duties following serious allegations.

Controversies That Lead To Bibby’s Dismissals
Bibby spent 14 seasons in the NBA, including a notable seven-year stint with the Sacramento Kings from 2001 to 2008. The 46-year-old made 487 appearances for the Kings and averaged 17.6 points, 5.4 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game.
His success in coaching at the high school level was something, but his off-court allegations drew fans’ ire.
Bibby began his coaching career promisingly after his 14-year NBA career. His first role was as head coach at Shadow Mountain High School. In 2017, a teacher accused Bibby of sexual assault, a case that didn’t meet a swift culmination.
The teacher alleged that Bibby made sexually explicit comments to her before grabbing her by the waist and pulling her into a car. She also said Bibby’s breath smelled of alcohol, according to her complaint with the police.
Bibby was relieved of his coaching duties at Shadow Mountain in 2019. The school and police launched investigations, but no charges were filed, as police did not find sufficient evidence.
Bibby was later hired as head coach at Hillcrest Prep Academy despite the unresolved allegations. His time there was brief—he left by mutual consent after just 10 games.
Neither Bibby nor the school gave a reason for the departure, though reports suggested it was related to the previous allegations. Bibby has consistently denied the claims since they first emerged.
