Which Big Ten Teams Made the 2025 March Madness?

The Big Ten has a long and storied history in college basketball, producing powerhouse teams and legendary players. However, despite its reputation, the conference has endured a 25-year national championship drought, with its last title coming in 2000.

This year, eight Big Ten teams have earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament, an improvement from last year’s six representatives. With seven teams finishing the regular season ranked in the AP Top 25, the Big Ten proved its strength and depth, securing solid seeding across the bracket. But which teams from the Big Ten made the “Big Dance.”

Big Ten Teams in March Madness

    No. 2 Seed Michigan State

Michigan State boasts one of the best resumes in the country thanks to some strong non-conference wins and a great run at the end of the season.

However, being placed in the same region as No. 1 overall seed Auburn makes for a tough path. Fortunately, with legendary coach Tom Izzo at the helm, the Spartans always seem to peak in March, making them a team to watch for a deep tournament run.

    No. 3 Seed Wisconsin

The Badgers are a No. 3 seed for the first time since 2022. After last year’s disappointing first-round exit, Wisconsin is hungry for redemption. Their physical style of play and disciplined defense make them a formidable opponent, and they are determined to make a statement in this year’s tournament.

    No. 4 Seed Maryland

Maryland has the highest-scoring starting lineup in the nation. Their ability to go on explosive scoring runs makes them a dangerous team in the tournament. If their offense stays hot, Maryland has the potential to make a deep run and challenge for a Final Four spot.

    No. 4 Seed Purdue

Purdue enters the tournament with high expectations, but guard Fletcher Loyer’s potential injury absence could be a major setback. The Boilermakers will need their remaining stars to step up if they want to avoid another early exit and live up to their high seed.

    No. 5 Seed Michigan

The Wolverines present a matchup nightmare for most teams, starting a pair of seven-footers who dominate the paint. Their size gives them a significant advantage on the boards and in rim protection, making them a tough out for any opponent.

    No. 5 Seed Oregon

The Ducks had a roller-coaster season, starting 15–2 before hitting a rough patch in late January and early February.

Despite that midseason slump, they secured a strong seed and have the talent to make a run if they can regain their early-season form.

    No. 6 Seed Illinois

Balance is the key to Illinois’ success. With six players averaging at least eight points per game and five shooting over 41% from the field, the Fighting Illini have multiple offensive weapons. Their depth and efficiency make them a sleeper pick to go far in the tournament.

    No. 7 Seed UCLA

The Bruins started the season hot, going 11–2 with key wins over Oregon and Gonzaga.

However, a rough stretch in January saw them drop four straight games, raising concerns about their consistency. If they can recapture their early-season form, UCLA has the potential to exceed expectations.

Can the Big Ten End Its Championship Drought?

While the Big Ten is well-represented in the tournament, the ultimate question remains: can one of these teams finally end the conference’s national title drought?
