The West Virginia Mountaineers had to say goodbye recently to head basketball coach Darian DeVries after just one season due to DeVries accepting the head coaching gig at Indiana. Now, the Mountaineers need to find his replacement.

Five Potential Replacements for DeVries
With plenty of intriguing coaching names out there, it is time to examine which coaching targets could fit well in Morgantown.
John Beilein
A former head coach at West Virginia from 2002 to 2007, Beilein knows the program very well. During his time at the school, he guided the Mountaineers to multiple deep NCAA Tournament runs before heading to Michigan to lead the Wolverines to multiple Final Fours.
While Beilein is currently an advisor to the Detroit Pistons, a return to Morgantown could be interesting for the 72-year-old.
Tom Crean
If the Mountaineers are in need of a coach itching to get back into coaching, Crean could be the guy. The 58-year-old has been working for ESPN in recent years but could be looking to lead a major program again.
He took Dwyane Wade and Marquette to the Final Four in 2003 and also won multiple Big Ten titles at Indiana.
Da’Sean Butler
Butler could be a real outside-the-box hire if the athletic department wanted to go in that direction.
A former All-Big East performer for Bob Huggins during his time as a Mountaineer, Butler knows the program and could help bring in some fresh ideas for the team. At 37 years of age, he is currently an assistant for the Boston Celtics.
Joe Mazzulla
Speaking of the Boston Celtics, head coach Joe Mazzulla is on top of the world right now. He coaches one of the best teams in the league and has been for a few seasons, as he brought a championship back to Boston.
If ever the 36-year-old had an interest in leaving what is a dream job for most, perhaps he would leave to bring his school back to prominence.
Seth Greenberg
A longtime analyst at ESPN, Greenberg hasn’t coached college basketball since 2012. However, the former two-time ACC Coach of the Year coached for 35 years in many places all around the country, including South Florida and Virginia Tech.

He has over 380 career wins and is only 68 years of age, which could be exactly what West Virginia is looking for.
