The Cincinnati Bearcats had a prime opportunity to secure a crucial conference win. However, ultimately fell short in a tough battle against the Kansas State Wildcats.
In a low-scoring game that came down to the wire, Cincinnati couldn’t capitalize on their late-game chances, resulting in a 54-49 loss. Head coach Wes Miller did not hold back in his post-game comments, taking full responsibility for the team’s struggles in the Big 12.

During the interview, Miller made it clear that he understood the disappointment from fans, stating:
“It’s on my ass. That’s the truth of it. I’d boo myself too. God damn, that was unacceptable… to anybody that bought a damn ticket and had to watch that tonight, I apologize.”
Both teams struggled to find a rhythm offensively, particularly from beyond the arc. Combined, the Bearcats and Wildcats managed to hit only five three-pointers throughout the game.
Despite their shooting woes, Cincinnati held a slim 25-22 lead at halftime, keeping them in contention. However, Kansas State’s ability to create more consistent offensive opportunities in the second half proved to be the difference.
David N’Guessan led the charge for the Wildcats, finishing with 18 points, while Dug McDaniel played a key role in facilitating their offense. Kansas State outscored Cincinnati 32-24 in the second half, gradually pulling ahead in what remained a tight contest. Cincinnati had a chance to close the gap in the final minute, but missed shots allowed the Wildcats to seal the win from the free-throw line.
Bearcats Face an Uncertain Postseason Outlook
The loss marked a significant setback for the Bearcats, who now hold an 18-12 overall record with a disappointing 7-12 mark in Big 12 play. With just one regular season game remaining — a road matchup against Oklahoma State on Saturday — Cincinnati’s path to the NCAA Tournament looks bleak.
Their best hope now lies in making a deep run in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament, where they will need to string together multiple wins to have any shot at an at-large bid.
